Event Overview
Don't be afraid of watercolor painting - it's easier than you think. Especially if you like breaking all the rules.
Watercolor paints are the quickest to dry, and they teach you some very important things, like patience, learning to live with your mistakes, and finding beauty between layers.
In this class we will explore a splish-splash, abstract type of positive painting style. The least of your concerns should be form and perfection. All you have to worry about is feeling comfortable getting the paint on the page. We will explore color mixing, layering, and how to bring out definition to your art in the post-production process using INK. I like to work a little backwards from other watercolor artists, and you can too!
You will walk away from this class with:
- Two 5x7" pieces of artwork on cold-pressed watercolor paper
- A greater appreciation and connection to your own creative ability
- A fun new trick you've learned that you can do while home, having a quiet night
- The chance to check out a unique gallery full of inspiration from several local artists, including SOHA's owner Julie Malone!

I loved taking this class, I can't think of a better way to spend a couple of hours than painting with other people. The teacher was encouraging and I felt confident following her instructions and letting myself create something. I would definitely take another watercolor class with her!

This class was awesome!!!! The class was fun, great gallery space I had never seen before. Our teacher was funny and informative. I came away with two paintings (I've never painted) and inspiration for more and for our art community in STL. Thanks!

This class was so awesommmmmme. The teacher was personable, encouraging, and gave excellent guidance. I've struggled trying to figure out watercolor in the past, and this made me enjoy it so much more. I've been painting like crazy since getting home!

I went in with no watercolor experience and tried to keep my expectations low because I tend to get anxious when doing anything artistic. I came out with two pretty cool pieces of art after a very relaxing couple of hours. Andrea is a great instructor, very welcoming and we all seemed to get as much individual attention as we needed. I think the techniques she used set us all up for success since every student was able to create something cool. I would definitely recommend this class and instructor.

I took my daughter to this class for her ninth birthday, and even though she was the only kid there, she LOVED it! Andrea was fantastic with her and all of the others in attendance. I highly recommend this class and any others instructed by Andrea!

I would not consider myself "artistic" by any stretch of the imagination, and was attending this more to hang with friends than to unleash my inner Bob Ross. However this instructor was AMAZING and helped my find an artistic streak I didn't know was there, all while having a great time. She was engaging, fun, informative and helpful, and I would absolutely recommend taking any class she is leading. It was a wonderful experience, and we are talking about taking the intermediate class with her next.

I am a person who has studiously avoided art classes since 5th grade due to a glaring lack of talent. However, I decided I would broaden my horizons and have always been intrigued by water color, so I signed up for this class. I thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Not only were we given the freedom to think outside the box as we created our projects, we were encouraged to "create our own universe". Andrea did a wonderful job of educating us on the medium, but not hitting us over the head with rules. I felt like I was one of the class, not the kid whose output always had to be "fixed" by the art teacher. I highly recommend this class!

Prior to this class, it had been about 35 years since I last attempted watercolor. This was a wonderful way to put the world on hold for a minute and rekindle the free-spirited joy of childhood. The instruction was fun and informative and the environment playful and supportive. Even if you don't consider yourself to be an "artist" or a "painter," you may be surprised by what you create in this class.
Prior to this class, it had been about 35 years since I last attempted watercolor. This was a wonderful way to put the world on hold for a minute and rekindle the free-spirited joy of childhood. The instruction was fun and informative and the environment playful and supportive. Even if you don't consider yourself to be an "artist" or a "painter," you may be surprised by what you create in this class.

I loved this class so much! It was a relaxing way to learn watercolor. I was surprised how much I liked the finish results as I'm usually my own worst critic! We were even lucky enough to have it hosted outdoors at The Strange Folk Festival!
