Event Overview

Whether you are just beginning your career, or are an expert in your field, this workshop will support you in the creation of a resume that truly tells your story.

This workshop will allow you to:

• Build your “brand” in the job market.
• Increase your awareness of the job search process.
• Provide insight to Recruiters' methods.
• Increase self-awareness by reflecting on your qualifications for targeted positions.
• Edit your resume to improve readability and enhance content, with the goal of increasing interview activity.
• Make decisions about which experiences to include or exclude.
• Produce a resume that presents your skills and accomplishments in a concise format while providing enough details to attract Recruiters.
• Organize your resume in a format that allows Recruiters to quickly identify your fit.
• Identify and incorporate keywords to improve searchability.
• Use your resume as the basis for your other job search tools such as cover letters/emails, LinkedIn Profiles and more.
• Learn to tailor your resume to various positions during the application process.
• Begin preparing for Interviews.

Feel free to bring your laptop and a current copy of your resume if you have one.

Karen Marvinac is a popular lecturer on topics related to employability and has taught a course in the DePaul University Internship Program entitled You, Your Work, and the World. Karen is self-employed as a Consultant, Instructor, Mentor and Job Coach with experience in many areas of Human Resources. She has an undergraduate degree in Finance from Lewis University, and an MBA from DePaul University in Human Resource Management. Throughout her career, she has “reinvented” herself by gaining additional skills to maintain her marketability and keep up with ever-changing technology. She attributes her success to her supportive network of contacts, many of whom have become clients. Her strengths are her flexibility and the ability to get the job done. Karen’s advice for job seekers today is to know yourself and your goals, be prepared, and learn to tap your social and professional network online and in person.
