Event Overview

Kefir is similar to a drinking-style yogurt. Tart and refreshing, it contains beneficial yeast as well as friendly ‘probiotic’ bacteria that gives superior health benefits when consumed regularly. You can pay a pretty penny for it at the health food stores, but it is quite easy to make yourself! This demo class is an introduction to basic fermentation, and covers all the steps in making your own delicious kefir at home.

Instructor Greg Tefs will go through the process of from start to finish turning your milk into this nutritious and tasty health beverage. Like kombucha, he’ll also show you how to do a second fermentation of the kefir that gives you the opportunity to add flavor and boost the nutrition, as well as how to make kefir soda and kefir cheese!

Recipes and tasting samples will be provided. You can also purchase an optional kefir kit for $15, which includes the kefir grains and a recipe so you can get started right away at home. If you'd like to purchase the kefir kit, please email lindsay@petersongarden.org in advance of the class.
