I Can't: Adult My Money is part of Mac & Cheese Productions' I Can't series, where adults state they're unable to do something, they try it with a bunch of other adults who also "can't," and everyone proves themselves wrong and not only does the thing, but enjoys it and says, "That wasn't so bad. In fact, kinda fun. Good for me! What's next?!" As at camp, topics and structure are varied but the "be yourself amongst others being themselves, witness the magic that happens when you try with others trying" vibe is pervasive. Past I Can'ts have included yoga, improv, draw, have a dog, adult my money - financial planner edition, organize my home, ask for money, put on makeup, and buy a home. Future I Can'ts include Find Love.
Pete has spent the last 15 years coaching and counseling people on their personal financial situations and how they can make better decisions when it comes to money.
"My raise seemed to be disappearing just as quickly as my past salary had.
Most of the "financial advice" I looked at made my eyes glaze over or my pulse quicken. If you just X,Y, and Z using this 3-step plan, you will be able to achieve all your financial goals! But, what if X is so complicated I would have to devote 2 years to researching it? What if Y makes my stomach turn? What if Z depends on A, B, and C, the very things that feel out of my control?
That's where Pete came in. Pete's financial help has been as much counseling as it has been budgeting and growth projections. What are your financial hang-ups, family dynamics that unwind your best-laid plans, and worries that keep you from being your best self? Making sure my plan addressed those things as well as the nuts and bolts of financial planning is what Pete excels at.
Pete made my financial plan match how I make sense of my life.
I already paid off my credit card debt and I am giving money to places that matter to me on a regular basis. I've also game-ified my monthly budget so that I can save for trips and give extra donations when I come in under budget. Talking with Pete gave me the courage to call Vanguard not once or twice but four times to break through my limited financial vocabulary and successfully get my money into a ROTH account.
I feel proud of myself.
If you are nervous about your living situation, your sticky finances with your family, and feeling too old to ask that one question (or hundred questions), Pete is your guru."
