Event Overview

Homemade vinegar is a fun and easy way to get started with fermentation! In this demo class, instructor Greg Tefs will walk you through making your own vinegars at home using two different techniques (whole fruit method and mother starter method). He’ll demonstrate three different flavors of vinegar–pineapple, black currant, and apple cider—and demonstrate creative condiment recipes using each of those vinegars.

We’ll also discuss the basic science behind fermentation, health benefits of apple cider vinegar, and the supplies and equipment you’ll need for success. Tasting samples and recipes will be provided.

MORE ABOUT YOUR HOST

Learning together in the garden, and kitchen, does much more than put fresh, nutritious food on the table. It helps build stronger communities, connect us to cultural heritage, improve public health and create a more sustainable, resilient city. Peterson Garden Project is a not-for-profit organization, and we're looking to inspire everyone we meet to grow and cook their own food and build community. If you love the taste of a homegrown tomato, are curious about growing food yourself, or are looking for a place to learn basic home cooking skills and make new friends over delicious food— then we're looking for you!
