Curry is not a spice. Curry is the gravy or sauce in an entrée’s. Curry Powder is a blend of spices like turmeric, black pepper, cumin, cayenne pepper, salt, coriander powder, cardamom, cinnamon etc. used to cook Indian food or to make curries. People are often confused about curries – I hope this introduction has described what curries are.

Chef Heta specializes in Indian classes that are offered multiple evenings a week. We also offer private group classes where menu’s can be customized personally for your group. Classes are BYOB, and there is no corkage fee. Classes include instruction, recipes, ingredients and of course enjoying all the delicious food that you learned to prepare.

I have loved the flavors, spices, freshness, and simplicity of Indian cooking ever since I was a young girl growing up in India. I had the opportunity to experience cuisines from all the diverse areas of India, where language, lifestyle, culture, and foods vary widely from region to region. I learned cooking from my mother and grandmother, I would stir pots full of curry (Hindi for gravy) or add spices to various dishes, which always gave me a great fun. Over time, I began doing more and more of the cooking, eventually taking over the kitchen. When my mother cooked, I would observe and discuss ingredients, spices, recipes, and cooking styles with her. I was her official taster for spices and Perfection.

My love of travel has taken me all over the world. I have tasted and learned to cook the foods of various cultures, and these experiences have shaped my recipes as I continue to experiment with the foods and flavors of my native Northern India.
