Jewelry 101: Technique and Design
5 Have Dabbled
Arts & DIY
There’s eye candy, arm candy, and just plain old candy candy. But the unsung hero here is outfit candy; high on beauty, mostly unconcerned with utility and often sentimental, jewelry won’t keep your toes warm in the winter but it will perfectly punctuate an outfit, pass on for generations and be a marvelous gift at every holiday. And for those that want to go beyond gawking, giving, and wearing, it’s also a great hobby.
In this basic jewelry making class, Dabblers will learn the proper use of common tools, how to use professional beading wire and how to attach your clasps with proper crimping technique. The class will also teach looping and wire-wrapping techniques employed in making professional-looking earrings. We’ll discuss ways to make your work interesting by enhancing and adding depth to your designs.
Dabblers get to chose from a wide variety of stones, beads and findings to make a beautiful single strand bracelet or necklace of their own design, and a lovely coordinating pair of earrings during the class.
