Letter + Press
TOP RATED
Arts & DIY
In an effort to allow designers and design-enthusiasts to better understand type and typography, we have crafted a unique introduction to letterpress printing with an emphasis on wood type.
This Special Topics letterpress workshop is presented in partnership with AIGA Chicago, with graphic designers in mind.
Guest teaching artist Vida Sacic will delve into the origin of wood type, the varieties of wood type, and share historical and contemporary examples of type and printed materials.
Working collaboratively, the class will develop copy and determine the design, layout, and type selection.
Students will learn how to lock up the type, mix ink, and determine the right amount of pressure. Everyone will get to run the press and take home an experimental typographic poster printed on paper generously donated by Mohawk. No prior letterpress experience necessary.
