Event Overview
While in modern times poetry is considered high brow, poetry contests were held at parties in Japan much like the 50's slam competitions. Haiku is not the shortest poem form but still manages to consist of three lines.
In this class, we will talk about the structure of the Haiku and the Waka, both very simple poems, flowed by examples of both ancient and modern poets. Then the fun starts. In a safe environment the class will take part in a poetry game to generate numerous Haiku and Waka poems of your own as well as one large collaborative poem.
We will sip tea read aloud and make new friends as we break into poetry.

MORE ABOUT YOUR HOST
Jessey graduated Naropa University with an MFA in creative writing with emphasis in poetry and hybrid texts. She lives in Chicago now where she puts on literary events, goes to open mics and holds a day job. She loves Dabble because it offers her the opportunity to continue being a student. She can learn to pickle, knit, forage or blog and as a writer this is important because all experiences fuel writing.
