Do you have a closet full of clothes or a stash of home-ware that could be redesigned, re-purposed and recycled as brand new concepts? At Urban Threads Studio we pride ourselves in encouraging you to rediscover fashion through our do-it-yourself repair and recycle class with our redesign consultant. For this class you must bring clean clothes which need repair and which you might otherwise have thrown out or clothes that need to be adjusted to fit again and we will help you breathe new life into it, re-purpose it, or up-cycle it. Notions and machines will be made available for this purpose.
If you project involves more than just mending please consult Michelle at michelle@urbanthreadsstudio.org and ask about your project in particular. This way the instructor will let you know what you must bring to finish your project.
The student must bring their project and the necessary accessories

We are a Not For Profit organization whose mission is "Textile Art for All". If it is textile based and you can make it by hand, we want to teach it in our studios at the beautiful Bridgeport Art Center! Our philosophy is to run contemporary, hands-on, project-based workshops, so that you can come along, learn something new and go home with a finished product or a new skill. Why? Because there is tremendous power in making something yourself. You will learn new skills or revisit old ones; you will discover the joy of working with your hands and you will find an outlet for your creativity. Along the way you will review your spirit and perhaps make a few new friends. All of our classes are taught by visiting artists and/or experts in the field. We offer adult workshops in beginning sewing, intermediate sewing, couture sewing and 45 different surface design techniques. For kids we offer Saturday programs and summer camps. We also offer textile art events for birthdays, bridal showers, girls night out etc. so ask Dabble about group pricing.
All of our classes are offered at a nominal fee and all proceeds are used to bring textile arts to urban youth in Chicago in form of after school programs, summer programs, apprenticeships and internships.
We look forward to welcoming you in our studios.

This class was great. There were several volunteers to help with the project and I was able to make a dress that I never wore into a skirt that I wear to work weekly. I'm hoping to go to another class soon to makeover more of my wardrobe!

Thanks to the small class size and my patient, knowledgeable teacher, I learned a lot about machine sewing in just a few short hours. Plus, I got to take home an adorable apron!
