Course Listing Title: Resist Dyeing: Shibori Ori Nui

Resist Dyeing: Shibori Ori Nui
Join shibori artist Christian Ortiz as he teaches you - always in trend - Shibori Designs & Techniques. The Japanese term shibori, which means to wring, squeeze or press, now encompasses many different forms of resist-dyeing which all involve shaping and compressing fabric in some way before dyeing it.
In this class, you will learn a number of different ways of stitching and gathering cloth to make straight or wavy lines. With this technique, called "ori nui" (fold/stitch in Japanese), the fabric is stitched on the edge of a fold, to make a double line of dots. It is often worked diagonally across the cloth in wavy lines, but can also be stitched horizontally or vertically, and in short sections.

MORE ABOUT YOUR HOST

Who we are!

The world around us is changing quickly but our need for communal gatherings in a nurturing and creative setting is not. Urban Threads Studio is a D-I-Y (do it yourself) collaborative studio that hopes to introduce you to the wonderful ancient craft of sewing and textile art with a 21st century twist. You may just want to rediscover a skill you learned as a child, experience the calm energy of a day of crafting or pick up an altogether new or more advanced skill like dyeing or felting. Our program hopes to accomplish all that and much more. Join us in the adventure and: register for a workshop, celebrate a next birthday with a textile art party, sign up the kids for summer camp, ask us about after school programs or enroll your youth organization in our 2013 community project.

If you need a personal consultation please call our Artistic Director, Michelle Santoro, at (708) 717-3740

The class was fantastic! I can't believe how much information we were given in such a short period of time without feeling overwhelmed. I came away feeling I knew enough to begin experimenting with the technique on my own. I would highly recommend this instructor.
