Event Overview

Join shibori artist Christian Ortiz as he teaches you - always in trend - Shibori Designs & Techniques. The Japanese term shibori, which means to wring, squeeze or press, now encompasses many different forms of resist-dyeing which all involve shaping and compressing fabric in some way before dyeing it. Fabric may be plucked and bound, stitched and gathered, wrapped around poles and pleated or folded and clamped. Each method controls dye penetration and produces one of a kind patterns. Our studio utilizes beautiful natural dyes with deep saturating colors. Each class will have you walk away with a few masterpieces which you can use to create garments, home decor or accessory items. White cotton yardage will be provided in class, however if you would like to dye specific items you must bring them with you to class.

Class I: Binding - Tuesday February 3, 2015 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m.
Class II: Stitching - Tuesday February17, 2015 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m.
Class III: Pole Wraping - Tuesday March 3, 2015 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m.
Class IV: Boards & Clamps - Tuesday March 17, 2015 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m.

Workshop Duration: 3 hours x 4 weeks = 12 hours total instruction

Level: Beginner to Expert - No Prior Experience Necessary

Skills Learned: Binding, Stitching, Pole Wrapping, Clamping, Kamosage Knot
