Event Overview

Everyone knows you should eat your greens. But many don't know that harvesting them fresh right before eating allows the body to absorb maximum nutrients and plant sugars-- as the plant is still alive as you eat it! Learning to grow your own veggies brings fresh, succulent greens into your kitchen, and impresses family and friends. Studies also show that getting your hands in dirt can help alleviate stress, tension and anxiety. Anyone looking to increase their health this spring by eating healthier & learning a bit of gardening is welcome! No previous experience with plants necessary.

In this class, Dabblers will learn how to grow their own fresh greens in an apartment window or balcony. Using recycled containers to help divert materials from the waste stream & reduce our carbon footprint, we'll learn how to create our own potting soil, plant seeds effectively, and take care of the seedlings once sprouted. All participants will go home with 2 containers topped with lettuce, spinach, and/or arugula seeds that will sprout in 5-7 days. Greens will be ready to harvest in around 3 weeks, depending, and can be regrown if harvested carefully! An informational zine will also be provided for tips, tricks, and more information on how to take care of your seedling babies.

This is a great class! Andrea knew everything under the sun about planting and seeds... If you want to know anything about gardening Andrea is the person to ask. I left there with my own little plastic container of planted seeds, soon to be radishes (if all goes well).

Great class whether you have a little experience or none. Andrea explained why and when you would want to seed various plants and how to harvest seeds from the plants once the pods have dried. I learned a lot and am excited to practice!

This was a very informative class and knowlegable teacher. As my first-ever gardening class, I felt a tad "behind" the rest of the group.
I really liked the take-away pamplet to refer to at home.

I took this class almost a year ago, and did not realize that I never left a review until it popped up on my Dabble review page. This class was great--it totally got me started with my new urban garden plot, and this spring I taught my friends how to start their own seedlings.

I really enjoyed this class! The teacher was very well informed and passionate about the subject. She was friendly and explained things clearly. I definitely came away with a better idea of how to keep my plants alive as well as a new respect for growing things as a whole.
