Join Denver-based fashion photographer Joe Friend at Gasmoney Studios for a two hour long demonstration on the different techniques on how to light the face.


Class Description: The cornerstone of lighting people lies in being able to effectively light the human face with intention, confidence and beauty. Join Denver-based fashion photographer, Joe Friend, for a two hour lighting seminar and learn how to easily achieve drastically different lighting setups using just one light.


This seminar will touch on the following concepts of lighting:



  • The 7 industry standard lighting setups for lighting the face

  • Light Direction

  • Light Pattern

  • Light Quality

  • Shadows - Self Shadow + Thrown Shadow

  • Direct Light vs. Feathered Light

  • Using positive and negative fill to control bounced light

  • Emotion and Tone - how direction and quality of light effect the tone of the photograph

  • Visualizing the shot before you take it


This class is suited for beginner to intermediate photographers. No previous studio or lighting experience is necessary.

With 8+ years of experience, his advertising work has been featured in Harper's Bazaar, Oprah Magazine, Vanity Fair, Glamour Magazine and American Airlines Magazine and some of his clients include Aspen Snowmass, PopSockets and John Taylor.
