We had an Individualized Education Plan (IEP) that wasn't effective in helping our student. Nothing I said or did was working. I remember the moment that everything changed. We were leaving yet another IEP meeting where our son's teacher refused to help our son. He refused to comply with any of the interventions and supports our son needed to be successful. He suggested that we move our child to a different classroom because this teacher "Didn't sign up to be a Special Education teacher." I walked out of that meeting in tears but also knowing that something had to change. What I discovered was that change was up to me. My approach needed to be different. This was the moment that The Special Education Parent Coach was born.
