Event Overview

There's only one thing that stops fertile garden tomato plants from producing - the first frost. When that frost is looming and your tomato plants are still loaded with green tomatoes, what can you do besides fry fry fry? You can preserve those unripe beauties into both sweet and savory delicacies to fill your pantry. In this class we'll take green tomatoes and make:

Fermented Whole Green Tomato Pickles
Smoked Paprika Pickles
Green Tomato and Sorghum Pie Filling (Frozen)
Frozen Breaded Green Tomatoes
Salsa Verde

We'll snack on samples of the recipes during class.

MORE ABOUT YOUR HOST

I've been teaching people to preserve foods for years. Food waste makes me almost as cranky as eating the same boring things over and over. I'm always looking for new ways to expand the bounty for my farming and gardening friends. Grow it, preserve it, and eat locally year-round!
