Event Overview

The human body moves in patterns, which complicates the task of addressing isolated movement restriction. Movement restriction can be broken down into two categories: joint mobility dysfunction and tissue extensibility dysfunction – basically joint stiffness or inflexibility of a muscle. This seminar will touch on the assessment of these causes of immobility and expand to strategies to improve mobility from a general perspective as well as what steps to take of more specific assessment is required (ie. a current injury).

Stretching is a form of exercise in which specific muscles are stretched in order to build flexibility and relieve tension. Believe it or not, stretching is one of the most controversial subjects in exercise and sport. For many years, experts, would-be experts, athletes, and coaches have disagreed about many aspects of stretching.

Runners following a training program tend to focus on building endurance and speed. Yet, a flexible body is more efficient, sees more gains in strength and endurance, enjoys more range of motion, is less injury-prone, recovers more quickly, and simply feels better. Regular stretching is a must.

This class will be taught at True Runnier by experienced physical therapist Robbie Horstman.

MORE ABOUT YOUR HOST

Robbie Horstman graduated from Saint Louis University with my doctorate in physical therapy in 2013. After a year working as a PT in Savannah, GA, moved back here to Saint Louis and has been a runner since 2009 when studying abroad in Madrid. One of my current professional interests is the interaction between functional movement and running form. As a physical therapist, it’s my goal to treat with maximum efficiency and effectiveness with an emphasis on education on self-treatment techniques to empower the patient to be able to help affect their own condition.
