Event Overview

Github is the premier code repository, but did you know anyone could host a website on Github for free? Forget the hassle and expense of buying a server or installing some bulky PHP/MySQL framework; if you've ever wanted to build a simple online resume, blog, advertisement, or marketing website then this class is right for you!

Participants will sign up for Github, install Github's desktop application on their Mac or PC, and end up hosting a website using Github Pages. They will learn the basic necessities of git, learn how to add their website to a git repository, and push it to Github where it'll be hosted. They will also learn how to use custom domain if they have one, edit and know how to manage a website files, and get introduced to the simple blogging platform, Jekyll.

This class teaches some of the best practices in Web Development today with no skill requirements in coding languages. Participants will walk away knowing how to use git commands, edit their website with Github's own text editor called Atom, and host their website live for all to see. A number of resources, links, articles, and how-tos will be offered as well so participants can take what they learn and run with it all on their own.

I am a Developer with World Wide Technology and have built both web apps and websites in a number of different platforms. Github Pages is the best I have found that even a beginner can learn to use. Sign up for this class and build a live website of your own creation!

MORE ABOUT YOUR HOST

I am a Developer at World Wide Technology, Inc., an enterprise IT supply chain and professional services company. I taught myself Web Development in college and have been building websites since 2011. My first web development job was with 501creative in St. Louis, a small marketing firm where I fixed, edited, and designed websites for our non-profit clients. My colleague and I taught ourselves AngularJS and from there we went on to build web apps for different companies. I am passionate about Web Development and teaching others how to join this exciting industry.
