Everyone has a story...what's yours?
Let’s face it: writing is hard. It takes time, practice, and revision. It requires solitude and dedication. But writing is even harder when you’re not sure where to begin. This class is about the beginning–finding your voice and using it to share your world.
This workshop will start with exercises that highlight unique voices in the writing world. From there, we will work on finding your story and developing your own unique voice. Throughout the process, you will work on a short essay to workshop in class during the final week. The goal isn’t to produce an essay worthy of immediate publication. Instead, it’s about using the art of writing to access parts of yourself that wish to be heard. Here, you’ll have the space to do it and an audience that is willing to listen.
This class is a SERIES. Come to all 4 sessions to get the most of it! We will be on four consecutive Sundays, (skipping February 14th) for two hours each, starting on January 31st. The dates are as follows:
Sunday, Jan. 31st, 4-6pm
Sunday, Feb. 7th, 4-6pm
Sunday, Feb. 21st, 4-6pm
Sunday, Feb. 28th, 4-6pm

MORE ABOUT YOUR HOST
Yvette is in her final year of the PhD program in literature at UT Austin. She has taught writing and literature to undergraduates for the past five years. When she’s not teaching or avoiding her dissertation, she works as a freelance editor, most recently working with Chicana writer and MacArthur “Genius Grant” winner Sandra Cisneros.
