Event Overview

There was a time when we thought pizza bagels were the best. They were delicious, simple to make, and piping hot at a moment's notice. Although now we're older, and our tastes are more refined, we've still been searching for that perfect combination of simple, delicious and ready fast.

And by George, we think we've found it!

This Dabble class is all about the art of making brick oven pizza. Though, to make brick-oven pizza you don't necessarily need an oven ... a grill will do just fine. Students will whip up incredibly easy homemade pizzas, learn how to turn their grills into outdoor ovens, and serve up supper in 1-2 minutes (mind you, that's half the amount of time it took to nuke your pizza bagels, with twice the flavor and incomparable freshness).

We'll also learn how to use our new dutch oven to make bread and other delicious dinner staples. And as a special treat, homemade mozzarella and fresh edible mushrooms will be harvested and used in our pizza making adventure, and recipe cards will be given to all participants so they may replicate. BYOAppetite and let's get cookin'.

Steve Shapson, owner of thecheesemaker.com (an internet based supplier of home and artisan cheese making supplies), has been dabbling in artisan cheese for nearly 12 years after learning to make Camembert from one of his customers. Steve and his wife, MJ, grow Shiitake mushrooms, gather forgeable delicacies in the local forests, raise honeybees and use their outdoor brick oven to cook pizzas in minutes. Steve believes using fresh & local food products whenever possible is important, and he's been spreading this message to groups of students by teaching workshops on edible mushroom cultivation and artisan cheese making at many Milwaukee and Madison area schools, natural food stores, wine & cheese shops and others. Both Steve and MJ love entertaining and cooking for others and have been featured in Milwaukee Journal / Sentinel’s Best Hosts series.
