The craft beer and number of local breweries keeps increasing and the styles of beer are incredible in St. Louis...so are the hops that go in them. Hops tantalize your nose and dance on your taste buds. They can be herbacious, floral, sour and sweet. Whether you just love drinking it or you want to learn more as a home brewer, this class is for you. Are you thirsty yet?
Now more than ever, breweries are focused on the richness of hops…but not all beers are created with equal hops.
In this class, join local Brewmaster Florian Kuplent of Urban Chestnut Brewing Company as you learn about the culture of hops. He will spend time discussing different varieties and what make them so essential for beer brewing.
But that’s not it, what makes this class so special is the students will taste test different beers to see if they can distinguish new world artisanal hops from old world heritage hops and how they affect the style and taste of the great beers made by UCBC. Oh Hoppy Day!

Brewmaster Florian Kuplent brings nearly two decades of artisan brewing experience to Urban Chestnut Brewing Co. From serving as a brewer’s apprentice in a small Germany brewery to developing award-winning beer recipes for one of the world’s largest brewers, Florian now shares his distinctive brewing creations with the craft beer enthusiasts of St. Louis from the brewhouse of his start-up brewery, Urban Chestnut Brewing Company.
At UCBC, Florian makes use of a unique brewing philosophy UCBC refers to as Beer Divergency—a ‘new world meets old world’ brewing approach wherein UCBC contributes to the “revolution” of craft beer through creations of artisanal, modern American beers, and pays “reverence” to the heritage of beer with offerings of classically-crafted, timeless European beer styles.
