Event Overview

Have you ever been in the middle of that killer recipe and reach into your kitchen drawer only to find that all of your knifes are dull? Want to know how to sharpen your own knife at home?

This is the class for you! Knife-maker and professional chef, Nate Bonner will give you an intro to knife anatomy and putting an "edge" on that dull knife of yours. From eastern to western methods, Nate will demonstrate knife sharpening skills using oil stones, wet stones, glass and marble, strop and hone, and even a few unconventional methods of sharpening, (think coffee mug and car window).

Any professional chef will tell you that the most dangerous thing in the kitchen is a dull knife. So never cut with a dull knife again!

MORE ABOUT YOUR HOST

“Not Your Mother’s Kitchen Knife…”
Nate has always had a fascination with knives and a special appreciation for the quality and workmanship of a great knife. Captivated by knives big and small since childhood, Nate’s passion for knives was further cultivated in his 10-year career as a chef. Professionally trained at the New England Culinary Institute (NECI) in Montpelier, Vermont, Nate went on to work in restaurants in Vermont, California and eventually his hometown of St. Louis, Missouri, where he held several Executive Chef positions. A gifted culinary instructor, Nate specialized in teaching “knife skills” further honing his pursuit of the perfect knife.

A true artist, Nate had always looked for beauty and functionality when purchasing a knife, but often found himself making technical changes to his knives to optimize their performance. Seeing an opportunity to combine his love of knives, his unique knowledge and experience in the culinary arts and his desire to create one-of-a-kind, high quality knives, Nate set out to create his “dream knives.” It was from that successful effort that NHB Knife Works was born.

Whether working with steel, acrylic and wood, other organics or exotic additives, Nate has a passion and natural talent for designing, sculpting and honing knives.

This was a very enjoyable evening. The teacher is obviously very knowledgeable and passionate about the subject matter. He explained and demonstrated the techniques he uses and shared his reasons for using them. He discussed some of the other techniques for sharpening knives that he doesn't use and explained why. All in all, I got what I had hoped to get from the class and had a good time.

Nate's class was highly engaging. He is passionate about what he does and has some beautiful knives for sale in his studio. Great class. Fun vibe and space. All around good times.

Highly recommended, and there were even snacks provided along with some dee-licious Civil Life beer (post sharpening).
