Event Overview

If you have ever thought about in-home composting, only to label it as too much work or difficulty, this class is for you! We believe that anyone can make the transition into a more sustainable lifestyle and become a successful in-home composter. This one-time information session will include the "Do's" and "Don'ts" of composting, including which materials make great composting material, as well as, how to use your own compost in your personal gardens or yards.

We will teach you the necessary beginning steps of composting that start inside your kitchen, even providing you with an odorless storage bin that can store weekly food and paper waste. Interested in learning about vermi-composting (using red worms to decompose waste)? We got it covered! Let your curiosity of in-home composting flourish as you will learn about recycling your food waste in a practical way to live sustainably and save money!

You can also upgrade your package to receive an additional and larger composting bin that will hold your waste over a longer period of time. Visit our website for more information regarding our larger composting bin and how you can sign up to purchase:

MORE ABOUT YOUR HOST

Kelly was born and raised in Florida, where she learned to love the outdoors and sunshine! After completing her B.S. in Food Science and Human Nutrition from the University of Florida, she moved to St. Louis in 2015 to pursue her masters degree in Nutrition and Dietetics from Saint Louis University. It is here where she has been an active participant in SLU's very own teaching garden. As a graduate assistant she has gained significant and practical experience with gardening and sustainable nutrition. The Dept. of Nutrition and Dietetics at SLU actively composts their own food and paper wastes, even using their own compost in their teaching garden. Throughout this last year Kelly has learned the trade of composting and has a desire to share her personal experience with others, in order to ignite the desire for sustainable living amongst her peers. Her personal interests beyond the classroom and garden include salsa
