Event Overview
If you've ever seen the TV show Portlandia, you know that you can pickle anything!
This class will teach basic pickling techniques as well as discuss what equipment and ingredients will be needed for a successful product. It is a hands-on basic canning class using the boiling water bath technique. By learning this method, you will be able to safely and confidently can everything from jams to pickles to fruit!
We will be making dilled green beans, known fondly by all who have tried them as "dilly beans." We will also be sampling and discussing various homemade preserves. All students will take home a jar of dilly beans, as well as handouts covering what we learned in class.

MORE ABOUT YOUR HOST
Lisa Fulk grew up in Florida and graduated from New College of Florida. She started canning as a way to save money and have high quality food on hand for her family. After experimenting with jams, she moved on to pickles and salsas before building up the courage to pressure can tomatoes. She has since become an avid canner and is a Cornell-certified Master Food Preserver. She started her company, Sunshine Canning, in the hopes of passing on her knowledge to the local community and teaches both private and public classes. Lisa knows that canning can be intimidating, but she makes sure to fully explain the safety concerns and different preserving techniques so that students get a full understanding of how to safely preserve food at home.
