Event Overview

Get your zen on with this four-part workshop series! Mindfulness meditation is an empirically-supported practice that can decrease stress, anxiety, depression, blood pressure, improve immune function, and relieve chronic pain through the cultivation of present-moment awareness, clarity, and acceptance. Incredible, right?

Participants will be introduced to a number of mind-body self-regulatory skills. Each class builds on the last and goes deeper into mindfulness meditation exercises to strengthen the brain and build a personal repertoire of exercises.

Class 1: 4/16 11a-12p We'll go over the fundamentals, then participants will have their first go at Mindfulness Meditation.

Class 2: 4/23 11a-12pm We'll do a brief check-in around any reactions during the week's practice between classes. Then, two experiential exercises designed to strengthen attention but do so in two very different ways will be taught and participants will have a go!

Class 3: 4/30 11a-12p We'll start with a check-in and review of the week's practice. Then, we'll go through a sensory awareness meditation designed to broaden and sharpen your perception of the link between mind and body.

Class 4: 5/7 11a-12pm We end the series with an exercise that builds on the skills taught so far to selectively focus attention on different aspects of moment-to-moment experience through guided imagery for participants to see their new skills at work!

MORE ABOUT YOUR HOST

Hi Everyone,

My name is Stephanie, and I’m excited to teach workshops through Dabble on how to deal with various aspects of stress and anxiety so that you can keep sane and kick butt! One might call this an area of budding expertise for me. I am one semester shy of becoming a doctor in clinical psychology (cue happy dance), and have received specialized intensive clinical training in anxiety and stress management AND in the development, facilitation, and evaluation of workshops on this topic. It is a passion of mine, which is why I’m looking forward to reaching out to the general public through Dabble!

This isn’t my first rodeo, I helped to run the Stress Management Clinic at Northwestern University in Chicago by giving five weekly workshops on mindfulness meditation for a year. The year before that, I ran several daily workshops on anxiety reduction in the Anxiety & OCD unit of a behavioral health hospital in the Chicago suburbs while also providing intensive therapy for patients dealing with severe anxiety. And before that, I gave monthly workshop seminars to parents battling addiction at a community health center, and to female inmates at Chicago’s D.O.C. Before coming out to Baltimore, I was invited to design and present a two-day workshop on stress reduction and mindfulness for a teen mentor program, part of the Chicago Botanic Garden organization. I currently work full time at Johns Hopkins University in fulfillment of my doctoral internship, and regularly design and present workshops across campus on topics related to stress management.

Things like enjoying delicious food (these east coast oysters, I’m telling ya), exploring the city, making friends, traveling, learning new languages (I speak 4 at the moment), and desperately wanting to become a better photographer, keep me sane and occupy my life when I’m not living it up a la grad school.

I hope to see you in one of my future workshops! Questions are always welcomed, as well as recommendations for any must-see and must-do’s in Baltimore or the surrounding area!
