Event Overview

Starting off, we’ll meet at Wormhole Coffee to enjoy delicious, locally roasted espresso. From there we’ll walk over to Wicker Park, settle in under a nice shady tree and spend the rest of our time together hooping it up in the open air. We'll begin by covering the basics of waist hooping and later delve into some off-body techniques. I will provide weighted hoops that are slower and easier to control, then once things pick up we’ll switch to lighter hoops and practice some arm sequences. Also, you’re more than welcome to hook up your own music on the bluetooth speaker that I'll have handy. We'll wrap up with a 45-second hoop routine that I encourage uploading to Instagram or Twitter to document what you’ve learned—hashtag #anahoopsexperience

MORE ABOUT YOUR HOST

I grew up in Chicago and studied interior architecture and design at Columbia College. I can nerd out about places and spaces but hula hooping will always be my first love. I've been practicing for eight years and teaching for the past three but what I enjoy most is noticing the many different ways hula hooping fosters movement, dance and personal expression.

I had such an excellent day learning to hoop with Ana! She’s incredibly knowledgable in her skill while making it completely approachable for a beginner like myself. I really wasn’t sure id be able to do any “real moves” but I learned how to do isolations, cowgirl lasso, and different arm variations. She brought music, and once I got some moves down it felt so good to flow and move with the music. Its actually a really good exercise for the mind regarding coordination, and it felt really good to open up my body in that way. Im really excited to get/make a hoop for myself. Ana even gave me a little booklet (that she made) breaking down different moves as well as some really helpful links for hoops and online tutorials. Such a nice touch. Thank you Ana :)
