Event Overview
It is possible to love performing and preparation, to be authentic, to make friends with your nerves.
But right now, fear impedes you. You worry about what others are thinking – the audition judges, the people listening in the hallway, your collaborators, the audience. You are judging yourself even more harshly than anyone around you.
In the workshop for Overcoming Performance Anxiety, you will learn three tools and apply them to performing:
Meet and connect with your Optimal Self, your Best Self, who can help you practice and perform at your best.
Make friends with the Inner Critic, the nasty voice(s) in your head, preventing you from being in the moment, and keeps you feeling tight, restrained, and hemmed in on all sides.
Learn to Center, which helps you regulate your energy and train your brain for being in flow.
Perform with these new skills in a safe and supportive environment, with gentle coaching to help you along the way.
A good fit for performers of all types - musicians, actors, public speakers - who are ready for the work of the Inner Artist.

MORE ABOUT YOUR HOST
I have the joy of wearing many hats in life: pianist, performer, collaborator, vocal coach, teacher, inner artist coach, wife, mother, yogi, avid cook, lover of beauty, striver-to-do-all-things-well.
I’ve spent the last ten years on the freelance path in Chicago, using my academic degrees (North Park University - BA in Piano Performance and University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee- MA in Collaborative Arts) and my real work in the field. I’ve made music with Chicago’s finest arts organizations, including Lyric Opera, Grant Park Festival Chorus, Music of the Baroque, and Light Opera Works. I also love performing with soloists and am grateful for the opportunity regularly to do recitals with some of Chicago’s most talented singers. Teaching has been a steady part of my work life through Chicago Opera Theatre for Teens and in my private vocal studio.
Blindsided by a serious bout of performance anxiety several years ago, I was so challenged I nearly quit being a musician. Instead I sought out ways to tackle this (new to me but age-old) problem. I dove into Beyond Practicing (an online class targeting performance anxiety) with Dr. Noa Kageyama and enrolled in improv acting classes at IO Chicago. I dug into the underlying causes of my performance anxiety, acquired new tools and coping strategies, and experimented with these tools through the improv classes (which caused absolute terror on a weekly basis). From all of these experiences, I’ve overcome my performance anxiety, and gained greater life skills by connecting to the inner work of being an artist.
