Relief Printmaking Workshop w/ Raeleen Kao

ABOUT THIS EVENT
Event Category

Event Overview

Woodcut uses specialized gouges to remove areas of wood from a flat surface to form a relief image. The block is inked and transferred onto paper using pressure. This technique originated in ancient China and was widely employed by European Old Masters since the 15th century and in Japanese Ukiyo-e prints in the 17th century.

In this workshop, participants will draw, carve, and print their own images from a woodblock onto paper. Participants will draw their own images onto individual woodblocks and given step-by-step instructions on carving techniques using specialized woodcut tools. Participants will hand-print their unique images onto paper with oil-based ink and have the option of printing multiples from their individual blocks.

For this class, participants will be working with the traditional image of a fish, drawn from life. If participants would like, they are welcome to work on a different subject of their choosing.

This class will be taught by printmaker Raeleen Kao. The full cost of this workshop is $75.
