User Experience” is a hot topic, and many have realized that a focus on it has proven to be a competitive advantage in business. But the explosion of terms around it can lead to confusion or mismatched expectations. This introductory session covers terms and practices used within User Experience Design, common steps in the design process, and high-level overview of techniques that UX Designers employ to create experiences that engage and delight.
In this session you will:
Learn the differences between UX-related terms such as “User Experience Design,” “User Interface Design,” “Service Design,” and “Design Thinking.”
Gain a bird’s-eye view of a design process, with emphasis on how it promotes empathy with users, inspires creative problem solving, and expresses your company values.
Get visual! You’ll try your hand at conceptual design with a sketch challenge. Think you can’t draw? Think and sketch again.
Your take-away? Learning the lingo of UX Design, strategic thinking on how UX thinking can help your business or company, and resources to help you in your journey ahead.

Jim Jacoby believes in master craftsmanship. As founder of the The American Design and Master-Craft Initiative (ADMCi), he administers its research and development, educational and foundation activities. Formerly the Founding Partner at Manifest Digital and an Adjunct Professor at DePaul University, Jim regularly works with new and established businesses to share his years of experience in entrepreneurship, business leadership, and user-centered design through speaking, teaching, and collaborative experiences. He's writing a book about his most recent adventures to come out in early 2015.
