Wooden Spoon Carving
8 Have Dabbled
Arts & DIY
In this class students will learn reductive processes in woodworking; how to visualize and then actualize forms from a single block of material. There will be a general overview of proper tool usage and the various histories and methods of carving, followed by the opportunity for students to design and create a wooden spoon to take home. The spoons can be fully functional or something decorative to hang on a wall. Students will leave the class with a general knowledge of how to carve wood and the necessary equipment, how to make shapes visible where there are none, and other potential ways of applying of reductive processes. Ultimately, we will also embrace carving as a slow, yet satisfying process that allows us focus and meditate on the process of hand- making.
This class is open to anyone and everyone, with the only stipulation that children under the age of thirteen are accompanied by supervision.
All ages welcome

The spoon making class was great. We made spoons from a block of basswood in 4 hours and learned enough to be able to make them on our own. Paige was awesome super positive and supportive. She even stayed after our class time was over to let us finish up.

Class was great, the teacher was excellent, well prepared, easy to understand. The location was very good as the tools required were all on hand.
