Event Overview

This class is intended to cover all aspects of playing the didgeridoo. Didgeridoos for class practice will be supplied and places to purchase your own for practicing outside of class can be recommended.

Beginner - here we focus on the basics (getting the drone, making simple beats, playing with others).
Intermediate - the focus here is on longer more complicated rhythms, animal sounds, and circular breathing.
Advanced - Here we up the ante and focus on total control of overtones, sustaining drones over 10 minutes long, beat boxing, flute playing, vocal harmonics, and didj drumming. Class culminates in a public performance.

People play the didj for many different reasons. Here are just a few:
- Meditation (the didj has a very calming sensation. Hit the right drone and your whole body vibrates).
- Healing (Yogis and shamens are rumored to use the didj as a aural healing technique)
- A therapy for sleep apnea (studies have shown that didj breath control is proven to alleviate apnea)
- Music (musicians love to learn this instrument due to its accessibility and uniqueness)
- For fun (how awesome would it be if you whipped out your didj and blew some mad beats for friends?)

Whatever your reason for learning to play the didj you'll be glad you did.

MORE ABOUT YOUR HOST

With 20 years experience playing the didgeridoo, Jonas has long been a fan of the instrument. Having played across the country (and in a few others) he's someone who plays purely for the joy it brings.

As of late, Jonas has been primarily focusing on using the didgeridoo to practice healing and breathing techniques meant to alleviate sleep apnea and snoring. Through controlled rhythmic breathing one can open up the airways and strengthen the muscles that control breath for more restful and satisfying sleep.
