ABOUT THIS EVENT
Arts & DIY
If you are ready to take your skills to the next level, this class is for you!!
The beauty and fun of modern calligraphy is that we each get to create our own unique look. But sometimes it feels tricky to know where to start with developing it. We will focus the time on developing your own unique styles (yes, more than one!!) through exploring letter variations, angle, lead length, ascender/descender to x-height ratios, and ligatures. You will learn about and apply the elements that determine the look of your lettering and build your portfolio of styles (if you have been hanging out with me long enough, you know I won't use the word "fonts" in reference to handwriting).
If desired, I will also spend time at the end of class discussing pricing calculations for commissioned pieces and elements that should be included in a contract.
What to Bring
Just bring your pen and your favorite nibs!
All ages welcome
You don't need to be a pro, but you do need to be able to use a dip pen as I'll skip over the basics like how to clean a nib and how to hold your pen.
I'll have ink, instructional pages and other supplies for you.
What You Can Expect From This Experience
- Take your calligraphy skills to the next level
- Learn how to develop additional styles
- Learn how to critique your own writing

MORE ABOUT YOUR HOST
Hi! I'm Kestrel Montes, owner and calligrapher of InkMeThis. I am a professional calligrapher located in the beautiful wine country of the California Bay Area. I am formally trained and currently teach pointed pen calligraphy all over the US (with a bachelor's degree in language and a master's degree in education, calligraphy has become a blend of my passions). I also make custom stamps, design digital fonts, and create products for calligraphers including handmade pens, desk blotters and ink stirrers. My styles range from formal Copperplate to playful or edgy modern calligraphy. I love teaching this versatile art to people interested in a new hobby, gearing up to use calligraphy for their own special event or hoping to make a business out of lettering. I'm always happy to share my tip and tricks and answer any questions.
