Beer Bootcamp
6 Have Dabbled
Food & Drink
Welcome to Beer Bootcamp. Where your knowledge of craft beer will be pushed to its limits. Where your taste buds will be worked to exhaustion. And where leaving class with a beer gut is impressive, and being able to stand up to walk away at all is even more impressive. (Just kidding. Sort of.)
This jam packed night of beer tasting will take Dabblers through an obstacle course of various styles of beer. Starting with Pilsners and Wheat Beers, and continuing onward and upward to IPA's, Stouts and Porters. We'll discuss the history of each style, how it's come to current incarnation, the standout beers to know in each field and various sub-categories within the styles.
Class will be full of hop talk and sample tastings, as we get a taste of each different local brewery's interpretation of the breed. Not only will students be sipping-- they'll be assessing ... rating beers on color, aroma, flavor and mouthfeel (so don't show up without a notebook and pen).
In one last great feat of accomplishment, the survivors who've made it thus far will go head to head in a blind taste testing, in which you'll have to identify the sub-category of beer your anonymous sample belongs to. Yikes.
Come with rookie to moderate amount of craft beer knowledge, and leave having graduated top of your class. But be forewarned: There won't be time to write home during bootcamp, so bring the fellow brew-heads who'd appreciate this class with you.
All ages welcome

It's safe to call Christopher Bruns an authority on beer. He writes for three online publications concerning the topic (Examiner.com, denveroffthewagon.com, and beerincolorado.blogspot.com). He's a homebrewer and a Certified Beer Server. He's also in the process of visiting every brewery in Colorado... topping off at number 88 as of 7/8/12. As if that wasn't enough, Chris is also a graduate of the Colorado Boy Brewery Immersion Course and is in the process of opening his own brewery. Whew! We think he may have a thing or two to teach you, Dabblers.
