Event Overview
In one afternoon you can gain a basic understanding of mixology that will help you make great drinks at home for your family and friends.
Participants in Cocktail Kulture 101 will learn to muddle, stir and shake, all while crafting well balanced, delicious drinks. In this class, we'll explore three classic cocktails:
- Mojitos: We'll discuss rum and sugarcane spirits while learning how and why to muddle a mojito.
- Martinis: Learn about the classic gin martini and the importance of vermouth in this stirred cocktail.
- Margaritas: Finally the classic margarita gets a fresh new perspective with a few clever twists as we learn how to use a shaker tin like a pro.
All three of these drinks will demonstrate how to achieve balance in cocktails and help you tackle that home liquor cabinet with finesse. Enjoy your handmade cocktails and some light snacks in this fun, hands on course.

MORE ABOUT YOUR HOST
Anika Zappe has spent a good deal of her life in cups, craft and drink. She’s been honing her adult beverage trade skills for 18 years while dedicating her early energies to barista-ing, creating a lifetime of beverage, business and customer service experience putting her in an elite peer class.
In 2008 Anika created the opening cocktail menu for Root Down, a 200 + seat, award-winning venue in Denver’s lower highland district where she served as the company mixologist. In 2010 Anika was invited to open Root Down’s sister restaurant Linger, a highly stylized, high volume concept in a converted mortuary. In the spring of 2012 Anika was recruited to become the Beverage Director and Mixologist for Seasoned Development, overseeing the beverage programs at Le Grand - Bistro and Oyster Bar (Best New Restaurant, Denver 2011) in downtown Denver, and, opening the nationally anticipated Punch Bowl - Social Food & Drink (PBS) in Denver’s South Broadway district.
Honored as a nominee by Denver Magazine for Mixologist of the year, 2009, Anika paired that recognition with sundry accomplishments including: “Denver’s Most Inspired Bartender 2009”, Bombay Sapphire Comp. 1st place, 1st place in 42 Below Vodka’s “Below Me” summer competition, 2nd Place in the Drambuie “Nail or Fail” comp. in 2010 and was one of the 100 Mixologists invited to the Grand Marnier mixology summit in Vail, CO April 2009. She’s attended the prestigious BAR program in NYC and graduated BAR Certified.
As a Founding Officer and Treasurer of the USBG chapter in Denver, CO, Anika appreciates the opportunity to mentor up and coming bartenders and travels to national trade shows for industry events representing Colorado bartending. Her personal goal is to lead by example, inspire and educate the next generation of Mixologists and bartenders while continuing her own studies in spirits and bartending, and professional representation of her craft. She can currently be found behind the stick at Coohills in downtown Denver, practicing her craft with her COBG colleagues and working on her next big thing.
