Event Overview

Cyanotype printing and photograms are two of the earliest photographic processes. Photograms are created through a camera-less process using objects or plant material as a negative for contact printing that creates a unique image. Cyanotypes use an iron-based (as opposed to silver-based) emulsion to create images with a distinct Prussian blue color.

This is a very user-friendly and fun process that doesn’t require a darkroom and can easily be explored at home. In this workshop participants will create unique cyanotype photograms on commercially-made papers, as well as explore techniques for toning the images.

MORE ABOUT YOUR HOST

Anne has been a hand papermaker for since 1085 years. During the last 15 years she has incorporated alternative photography, finding that the two media compliment each other. Anne received her BA in Design from UCLA. She is self-taught in alternative photographic methods working with cyanotype, gum bichromate and van Dyke emulsions.

A highlight of exhibitions include a recent invitation to show one of her paper/alt photo pieces at the International Exhibition & Symposium for Paper Art in Cheongju, Korea; a piece was in the United Kingdom traveling exhibition Breaking the Mould sponsored by IAPMA (an int'l papermaking organization); and she won the Bronze Medal at the Alternative & Early Processes show at the Camera Club, London, England.

Anne has taught both papermaking and cyanotype printing at the Birmingham Bloomfield Art Center in Birmingham, Michigan for 3 years; a workshop at the Banff Center for the Arts in Canada, a workshop at Middle Tennessee State University; and at the University of the South in Sewanee, Tennessee. Upon returning to Lakewood, Anne has taught cyanotype at Kozo Art Supplies in Denver and presently at her studio in Belmar, Block 7, Studio C.
