Event Overview

Congrats on your newest addition to the family!

Motherhood is exciting, but as any new mom can tell you, it's also exhausting. Sometimes our sweet little ones cry and cry, and try as we might we just can't figure out what it is that's making them so upset. That's why we're intrigued by this new phenomenon of baby sign language, where infants and toddlers are taught American Sign Language (ASL) to communicate their needs with their parents. Imagine how many tears and headaches you can save knowing right away that what your baby wants is milk / a nap / a diaper change ... and you know that because they told you.

This Dabble class is an introduction to the ASL alphabet, some basic ASL words, and the foundation for simple finger spelling. Pregnant moms, moms of babies and toddlers of any age, caregivers, teachers, or just those with an interest in finding out more about the third most used language in the United States are all great students for this class. (Children of any age are welcome to attend free of charge with an adult.)

We'll practice the ASL alphabet, learn some interactive games and songs to help you remember and teach to your kiddos, and learn to sign 30 every-day words in conjunction with each letter of the alphabet. No prior knowledge of ASL is required, and students can expect to leave with a deeper respect for the deaf community, hands on practice of the ASL alphabet and an effective, peaceful new way to communicate with your baby or toddler.

MORE ABOUT YOUR HOST

Angel Carrier is a MSH Certified Baby Sign Language instructor for hearing babies and toddlers, and the owner of My Smart Hands -- a group of baby sign language instructors that use 100% ASL signs to teach parents how to communicate with their hearing babies and toddlers. Angel's interest in sign language stemmed from a combination of her Early Childhood Education experience working in a preschool, teaching 4th grade, ASL classes she had taken in college, and the birth of her two daughters. Angel loved the MSH method of equipping her young ones with a powerful way to communicate. She wanted to not only teach her own baby, but share the curriculum with other families in the Denver area ... firmly believing in the importance of good communication between children and adults.
