Event Overview
Learn the basics of letterpress printing in this quick survey of old school and modern letterpress. We'll cover design issued related to moveable type vs. photopolymer plates. Technical aspects of letterpress setup, registration, and calibration will not be fully covered.
Students will have the opportunity to print a collaboratively designed poster or postcard on a vintage rotary press and vintage platen press.
Class Project: take home a handful of printed posters or postcard designed in class.
Materials: Ink, paper, type, blocks, and photopolymer plates
Duration: 2 hrs

Sirima Sataman (born Bangkok, Thailand) studied sculpture, printmaking and fiber arts at the Claremont Colleges, the American University in Rome, Italy and Temple/Tyler University in Rome, Italy. As working artist and active arts organizer in the Dogpatch/Bayview neighborhood, she makes art and teaches private students through her own art studio, ink.paper.plate PRESS as well as publishes a local arts guide for her community,www.dogpatchart.com.
She has taught workshops, given artist lectures, and demonstrations for the University of California Santa Cruz Extension, Academy of Art University, and various educational organizations.
