Event Overview

My name is Sam Coffey. I have been working in the bar business for over 15 years and am a co-owner of The Fortune Teller Bar in one of Saint Louis's fastest growing neighborhoods known as Cherokee Street. I have been shotgunning beer for as long as I "can" (intended pun) remember.

Wikipedia defines shotgunning as "a means of consuming a beverage, particularly beer, very quickly by punching a hole in the side of the can, near the bottom, placing the mouth over the hole, and pulling the tab to open the top. The beer quickly drains, and is quickly consumed." In this class I will teach you how to shotgun a can of beer without spilling it all over yourself. I have spent many years developing a technique that allows a shotgunner to take advantage of the cans air pocket.

The cost of this class covers everything you will need to gain the skills necessary to never embarrass yourself again while shotgunning a beer. Each student will receive (2) two cans of Busch Bavarian Lager Beer that's brewed right here in Saint Louis! Please bring a shirt to change into in case you spill a little on yourself. We will also have Fortune Teller Bar shirts available for sale.

I recommend arriving at this class having had dinner and be sure to have a responsible way home. Please come with a designated driver or I can make a cab recommendation. This class is limited for students over the age of 21 with a valid ID.

Sam first started working in the restaurant business at the age of 15, working nights as a busboy. He got his first job waiting tables 4 years later in 1999 at one of Saint Louis's most recognized landmarks, Blueberry Hill in The Loop. In 2003 Sam went to work for the first ever MicroBrewery in Saint Louis, Schlafly Beer. During his tenure working as a cellar rat, keg cleaner, restaurant manager and tour guide Sam developed an intimate relationship with the process for making beer. In the mid 2000's Schlafly canned their first beer, Summer Lager, and Sam eagerly awaited the delivery of the first pallet. He was proud to be among the first Saint Louisan's in history to shotgun a can of Schlafly Beer.

Sam's love for the bar and restaurant industry led him to eventually open up his own place alongside two of his closest friends, Matt Thenhaus and Kristin Dennis in 2011. The Fortune Teller Bar has sold thousands of 12oz cans of Busch Beer since first opening and many of those cans have been shotgunned using the techniques developed by Sam many years ago in the dark and cavernous cellars of Saint Louis.
