Valentine's Day Special: Basic Cupcake Decorating
13 Have Dabbled
Food & Drink
NOTE: This class is a Valentine's Day themed class, so feel free to come with your significant other or any loved one and frost some pretty cupcakes together and enjoy some drinks at The Fortune Teller Bar! This class will provide homemade red velvet cupcakes and vanilla cupcakes, with cream cheese frosting and vanilla buttercream frosting. You'll have the choice to use any Valentine's day sprinkles you see fit + write your own little messages on some homemade conversation hearts (updated photos/details coming soon).
Ever wondered how the bakeries in town make such beautifully decorated cupcakes? They might look fancy, but the process is actually quite simple once you get a few techniques down. This class will teach you the basics of American-style buttercream. By "basics," I mean that I'll teach you how to make from-scratch buttercream frosting (mmm, sugar!), discuss the right consistency for piping (something I foolishly struggled with for awhile). In addition, I'll show you how to use the pastry bags and tips, and of course you'll learn how to use the pastry tips to make all kinds of pretty designs on your cupcakes!
With your class ticket, you'll be able to take home your beautifully frosted cupcakes, plus one disposable pastry bag and one of the most common decorating tips to get you started. In addition, you'll receive a slide deck of the class information, as well as some educational resources if you're interested in pursuing cupcake decorating more often!
Bring yourself and come prepared to enjoy frosting and eating some tasty homemade cupcakes!
All ages welcome
You don't really need any prerequisites to attend this class; it's focusing on the basics from the absolute beginning. You just need to be interested in baking/decorating and be open to learning something new! Oh yeah, and you should definitely be open to having fun. :)
I will provide the (disposable) piping bags, and the reusable pastry tips, red velvet and vanilla cupcakes to frost, as well as the premade buttercream. You'll also receive a slide deck with course information, plus more educational resources.

I'm a self-taught baker with a passion for pretty much any sweet treat. I started decorating cupcakes nearly two years ago in preparation for my friend's bridal shower. Since then, I've learned plenty via trial and error. I'm certainly no expert, but I have the passion and the failures to make me fairly knowledgeable (I could ramble for days on baking-related subjects; you've been warned!). I'm teaching this class to impart some of my knowledge onto others, because let's be honest: cupcakes are fun, and so is baking and any kind of decorating.
Darcie was most excellent. She was prepared , cupcakes were delicious, techniques were demonstrated & icing was yummy. The only drawback was the setting: lighting was poor, tables were inadequate, & the music in the background was very loud & interfered with hearing Darcie's instructions.
