Becky Courtade (Macrame Club)

Becky Courtade is a Chicago based fiber artist who's mission is to spread her love of macrame and other fiber arts to the local community. She loves teaching others how she creates one of a kind pieces from start to finish, and sharing the relaxing, meditative experience as well as the creative process with her students.

Becky started Macrame Club with Kira Dunlap in 2015 as a Saturday get together with friends to unwind from the busy week and make plant hangers to hold their ever expanding plant collections. Soon afterwards, they started selling their creations and offering workshops to teach others how to create these unique pieces on their own. Kira moved to northern California in the fall of 2018 and is planning to expand Macrame Club to the west coast once she is settled.

Becky has no formal arts education, but grew up sewing, quilting, embroidering, and making macrame plant hangers with her mother from an early age. Becky has been a teacher with Chicago Public Schools for 7 years. Combining her love of teaching and fiber arts, she will give you a unique experience in the meditative art of macrame.

I had a great time learning to make the macrame dreamcatcher plant hanger! Becky was great at explaining how to do the macrame and it's knots, and guiding us through the process. The atmosphere was amazing, all the girls attending the workshop were great! I left with a beautiful macrame plant hanger I made myself and most importantly, I left full of new knowledge and a great experience!

I have only just started dabbling in macrame and I wanted a hands on experience to better master different knots. Becky provided exactly that with her macrame owl class. I learned at least two basic knots as well as a couple of tricks to create different looks with those knots. Becky was a patient teacher, which was helpful since I got stuck once or twice.

This was a great low key intro to macrame where you got to leave with a cool project. Becky was a great teacher and made the evening fun.
