40 Years of Innovation
In 1975, Facets got its start showing art-house films in a church loft. Today, Facets has evolved into a leading national media arts and education organization, occupying a unique space in the cultural landscape of Chicago. In its 40-year tenure, Facets has become a landmark for film buffs, a global destination for festival programmers and filmmakers, a cradle of innovation in media education, and a local art space that makes high-quality film experiences accessible to vast audiences through screenings, rentals, and community collaborations.
Above all, Facets is a space of education. Since 1983, Facets' annual
Chicago International Children's Film Festival
has produced 31 Festivals, screened over 8,000 films, received 32 Oscar nominations for participating filmmakers, and served 525,000 children. This high-quality, global programming has positioned Facets as Chicago's trusted curator of independent film for children and youth. With the same commitment to excellence, Facets' year-round, media education programs harness the power of film to inspire critical thinking, creation, and deep and lasting learning across subject areas. These programs continue to serve Facets' mission of transforming lives through the power of film.
Made Possible By
Facets is supported by earned revenue, memberships, contributions, and by grants from the National Endowment for the Arts, the Illinois Arts Council, the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation, the Chicago Community Trust, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and other foundations, corporations and individuals.
