Laura Gibson

Hello Chicago! My name is Laura, I am the Director of Development at The IAEOU, an Innovation Loft for Creative Professionals. I also own a consulting business, Creative stArts: Nonprofit Business Consulting. I have a Bachelor's Degree in Arts Management with a artistic background in Singing, Dancing, and Acting, and I am a fun, arts-obsessed, and driven woman and have immersed myself in everything to do with arts since I was young! I recently moved to Chicago from New Hampshire and I am in love with the city!

I have taught dance, and have taken lessons ballet, pointe, jazz, modern, and kickline tap for 20 years and performed in my college dance company at the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts. I love singing musical theater, jazz, and classical music. I was the Top Soprano for 3 years in both Jazz and Classical Music, from 2006 to 2008, in the state of New Hampshire. I have performed for over 22 years and loves all things having to do with art and performance. I have taught and choreographed ballet, modern, tap, and jazz at the college level and at studios in Massachusetts and New Hampshire. Also, I have been in semi-professional productions of Ballets and Musicals for over 15 years in the New England Area and has choreographed, directed, and starred in a variety of performances.
On the total flip side, I started and manage a group of singers called 'The Melodics', a unique. and talented motley crew of about 100 singers from across the world through a singing iPhone/iPad app called Smule Sing. We sing a wide variety of great music, and it was there that I found a love for parody and mash up songwriting. I also found the love of my life, who happened to live in this great city!

My overall personal goal is: “To never forget the passions in life which make life worth living and never give up on my dreams.” My goal in helping others is to help other people discover or rediscover this passion for life and what they love within themselves.

This was a fun class! The blend of yoga/pilates/ballet is perfect for me. Besides being able to stretch, I love to be able to move around and feel that I accomplished a "real" and physical workout. Laura is very approachable, and personable and has a knack for molding the lesson based upon her audience. She teaches "organically", teaching you the fundamentals you need based upon your background. Just based on that, she's great about making people comfortable.

As a guy, it's easy to get intimidated by ballet -- but I feel that I have learned a lot by being in just one class, and would love to be back fro more.
