Rani Young

Rani Young is the founder and owner of Resistor, a gallery and event space in Chicago's Lincoln Square neighborhood. She is also a visual artist, designer and musician. Rani has a BFA from Colorado State University and a post-bacc in Art & Technology Studies from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Rani began her career as a graphic designer and quickly moved into motion graphics. She spent close to two decades working in the fields of design and animation creating print, web design, digital signage, outdoor billboards, and event design and branding, with some behind-the-scenes graphics operation and on-site event production.

In 2010, Rani co-founded Transistor, a retail shop, gallery and event space which is still in business, currently in the Andersonville neighborhood of Chicago. While at Transistor, Rani taught a series of classes, including Drawing Fundamentals, Figure Drawing, Painting in Acrylics, Lightbox & Lamp Creation, and software classes (Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign and After Effects), eventually instructing over 400 adults during a three-year period. After leaving Transistor, she continued to offer private art and design classes and also became an instructor in drawing and painting at Oak Park Art League. Rani's focus today is on bringing people together to share their work, while continuing her own pursuits in visual art and music. She is a painter, working primarily in oil on canvas, and was a 2014 recipient of an Individual Artists Grant from the Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events. She was also a 2015 recipient of an Artist Project Grant from 3Arts. Her paintings and drawings can be seen on her website, www.raniyoung.com.

Had a great time drawing figures on a grid. Got a lot of good feedback and personal attention from the teacher. A great night out.

Great fun. The instruction was clear and time passed quickly. Produced something nice right away.
