Hi, I'm Jen! The owner, founder and sole proprietor of Urban Sprouts!
I have always loved plants. Growing up, my mom had a vibrant vegetable garden every summer and she always made sure there was room for me to have a place to grow some things too. As a young adult I tried to get as many opportunities in small business and I could, even when that meant working multiple jobs and going to school. I worked as a site supervisor for a house painting and landscaping company, an event coordinator for the American Farmland Trust, as the assistant manager at a gift shop, owned my own side business making and selling paper lanterns, and was the Operations Manager at a wholesale garden supply company.
I attended the University of Washington and got my BA in Environmental Science, with a focus on urban farming, sustainable resource use, and human health (although I started as a Biology major with the intent of becoming an Occupational Therapist). A couple years after college I found myself working in an office and quickly realized that wasn't the path for me. I wanted to run my own business! I started working on a business plan in my free time and after a few months of research, writing, planning, and scavenging for resources I was launching my fundraising campaign for start-up capital! After a lot of work the campaign was a success and a few months later at the age of 24 I opened up for business as Powder Haus in Ballard!
I am passionate about doing things for yourself and doing everything you can to increase the quality of your life and those of the people around you! I love to cook, hike, swim, craft, run my business, spend quality time with friends and family and of course build relationships with my wonderful customers!
If you ever need anything, have any questions or want to have a chat let me know! I'm always happy to connect.
Thank you for your support and I hope you join me on this journey.

My mom and I absolutely loved this candle class! The instruction was super easy to follow, the available supplies were high quality and very fun to use, and the teacher gave us information on how to do the craft at home again in the future! We made friends with other participants we hadn't made before, and the activity was well structured so we had all the resources we needed to have a great time!

The instructor was very knowledgeable and the class was easy to follow. Would definitely join another class by this instructor and at the same location.

Had a great time - the teacher was very friendly and happy to help or give suggestions the entire class. A lot of options to add colors, fragrances etc. to make your own personal soap. Even took home the soap mold so we can make our own at home!

This class was great. The teacher is fun, friendly, and will take the time to explain everything to you as much as you need and answer in-depth questions on soap making.

I thought this class was very well led. It was a comfortable environment for asking questions and learning. I really liked the project I left with. My only complaint is that the dabble description was not accurate to the class costs. In the description it says the class is free and all $20 spent will be applied as a credit to your purchase. The class was not free and $10 was to go to the instructed so only $10 was applied to the supplies. Then it says that on average people will spend $30- $70 but the smallest frame alone is almost $30 and then each plant is $5 to $6 and it's explained at the beginning of the class that it's best if you fill it up. I had the smallest frame and probably the least amount of plants possible and spent $68 on top of my class costs. My mother went a bit crazy and got the bigger frame and tons of plants and spent around $168. I just think it's best to set those expectations in case people are budgeting so they don't have to walk out.

Each portion had a different teacher, and both were awesome. The yoga was a great pace, challenging but not trying to kill me before my mimosas. The instructor clearly cared a lot about her practice and sharing it with others. The terrarium building was incredibly informative and fun!!!

It was kind of nice being able to pick what we were going to paint without it already having been chosen for us. This class was much more laid back than usual paint nights. Would have been nice to be able to see the reference image the whole time, but it gave us more opportunity to make the paintings our own & unique.
