I enjoyed this class, and would recommend if you’re interested in a hands on approach to learning about healthier cooking. The participant size is small and caps at 12, but there were only 6 people in our class which was a perfect amount. We made a variety of recipes and you get take home sheets for all of them - and we learned how to read nutrition labels and what to watch for. All in all a good class, with a friendly and knowledgeable instructor.

Super helpful in many ways: from how to hold a knife, care for it and use it. I learned slicing and dicing techniques that I never knew existed. Our class had people of all skill levels and the teacher was able to cater to each person. We had hummus to snack on plus took home all the vegetables and learned what a broth bag was so almost nothing went to waste. Definitely worth the $40 and would take every course offered if I could.

This was the second class I took (in the same week) and I love the setup, teacher and everything about it. The classes are small so you get the teachers' undivided attention and she is very helpful with any questions you may have. The feast at the end was DELICIOUS. My suggestion: bring something to take notes on if you're like me and will forget what you learned in a month.

We went over the anatomy of a knife, knife care, then got to practice on several veggies - all of which we were able to take home for our own use.

I had the nicest time, playing with a "Chopped!"-like pantry and mixing seemingly random ingredients like a mad scientist. Sarah and Yvonne were lovely hosts. Sarah provided a rubric that was particularly helpful in terms of how to freestyle effectively. I'm not an adventurous cook. Wasting food really bothers me and so I err on the side of bland. After taking this class, in the last week I have altered 3 of my tried-and-true recipes to add more layers of flavors. It is so delightfully empowering to know what things might work together and how to fix things if I go off the rails!

My only complaint was that it went so late on a weeknight, but I knew that when I signed up. Perfect friend-date or date-date activity; just don't eat beforehand, because you're going to want to eat what you make in class (or at least taste it, to see if you're going in the right direction). Also, they were very allergy-sufferer friendly, so if you have this issue, let them know in advance so they can see if they can accommodate.

Just like everyone else, I've been wanting to eat cleaner. And that means cooking for yourself instead of eating out.

It looks so easy on TV and on Internet recipes. But then you find yourself in your kitchen with all the ingredients in front of you. Some of which you've never even heard of before. And you're thinking: Mayyybe I'm in over my head.

That's exactly how I felt before signing up for this class. I needed someone to show me the ropes of using a bunch of different ingredients in simple ways, all in the name of eating cleaner.

You're in good hands in this class. Sarah and Yvonne are really attentive, patient, and helpful instructors. And they generate a really fun vibe for the few hours you're cooking in the room with fellow cooks.

The class focused on plant-based and vegan eating, which I personally don't follow. So not everything was stuff I'll actually cook for myself. Still, it was cool to learn new ways to use ingredients, and brush up on my basic cooking skills.

If you're looking to eat healthier or add a few new cooking tricks up your sleeve, you should totally take this class.

I thought the price was a great value because you get to try so many ingredients and take home leftovers! It sometimes felt a little out of reach - discussing ingredients I would never have in my kitchen - but parts were helpful. I would definitely go back to another class at Whole Foods!

My only surprise was that I thought the class was 2 hours, as advertised on Dabble, but when I got there learned it was actually 2.5 hours.

This was a great class, as per usual for the Whole Foods at Lincoln Park. There were a good array of snacks and a decent mix of demonstration, tasting, and participating. The class did go over by an hour, which has been consistent with the other classes I've taken here - it would be helpful to extend the time on the class listing or shorten the class so that it does fit within the two hour timeframe. The class did go over by an hour, which has been consistent with the other classes I've taken here - it would be helpful to extend the time on the class listing or shorten the class so that it does fit within the two hour timeframe. Otherwise, I had a great time, learned some tasty recipes, and enjoyed tasting some great cocktails!

This class was helpful - there's a ton of information out there so it's nice to just have building blocks of what goes into a good meal and why and what it does for your body.

Completely exceeded my expectations! Took my boyfriend, a wine novice, to this class as he's been lamenting about his under-developed palate and really did get a grand tour of Italy. Chef David Sowell chose wine and food pairings to highlight the cuisine from north to south, offering insight to the culture along with great stories. Really fabulous. While I'd hoped for something geared more toward novices to help them identify aromas and flavors in the wine, classmates helped in that regard so this class was great for individuals all along the wine experience spectrum.

I learned to make 6 different types of soups including chicken noodle, minestrone and tomato and took home two big containers of soup. I highly recommend this class.

Love this teacher! The selection of soups was good - 6 of them? - and we got the chance to choose whether to make minestrone or tomato. Neither are my favorite, so that was a bit disappointing, but in general that's just my personal preference (I don't like tomatoes in soup), so other people loved it! The best part was learning the basics of broth making, which was extremely useful.

Very informative class, however, I wish it was less focused on carbs/starch and more hands on. Out of 5 dishes we made, 2 were rice and 1 made from black beans... Also, I wish we had the chance to make everything the teacher showed. The best part about these classes is that they're hands-on, so I wish the lecturers kept us making stuff rather than watching them do it.

This was my first Basic Skills class, and it was well worth it! The instructors were so friendly and knowledgeable, and they pack a lot of activity into the class time. You get full portions of each protein you're given to cook, but you're given to-go boxes at the end for whatever you can't finish. Now that I have some tips for cooking, I'd love a class on how to select the right cuts of meat for your recipe. Hope to be back for another class soon!

Of course the venue is also perfect. Way to go Whole Foods. Specifically this sushi class was brilliant. My sushi came out surprisingly masterful and my friend and I had a lot of fun in the process. Thank you!

This was a very informative class. I learned a lot about the correct sequence of adding ingredients in addition to learning about a variety of interesting spices and when to put them in the mix. The completed dish was delicious and I was impressed with the after effect of the spices. After eating, the spices seemed to have a subtle but increasing warming effect that was quite pleasant and tasty. I'll be experimenting with making Biryani as a result of attending this class.

My friend and I wanted to try something new for our next get together, rather than the usual dinner and/or drinks, so we decided to take the Red Star Farmers Market Cocktail Class. The class started off with information regarding equipment that would be helpful at home (eg; a proper shaker, strainer, muddler, etc.) and moved into simple techniques. We learned muddling, the order of making your drink, infusing alcohols, etc. She offered a lot of helpful tips and tricks before moving into the fun part - making and tasting the drinks! Lorna made each drink for us to sample, and at the end of class, we were each able to make our own drink specific to our tastes. Lorna was approachable, funny, and informative throughout the entire class and wanted to ensure that everyone was confident with their technique before leaving class. My friend and I can't wait to fine tune our skills for our next cocktail party!

They didn't have our registration through dabble, so not sure what happened there. The food was great! The instruction seemed to be based off of a series of classes, most people had already been in previous ones and for someone who was completely new to Indian cooking, some things were over my head and not beginner. I also didn't realize this was just an instruction we watched, I thought it was going to be more hands on with us actually cooking our own and learning, oh well!

I would definitely recommend the Indian cooking series that comes through the Lincoln Park Whole Foods once a month; the instructor was so engaging and the food was delicious!

This class provided me the opportunity to taste some wine I'd otherwise not have tried, so that was a positive. However, I was extremely disappointed to learn after class had started that the entire menu was vegan and then the vegan cookbook the meal was generated from was marketed to the class. This should have been communicated in the class description - I would have selected a different class.

After reading the description I was hoping that we would be learning to cook vegetables. On the contrary, the teacher was showing us how to make food that was pretty unhealthy - pastries & gnocchi. Butter and sugar everywhere, I think I ended up eating like 3000 calories that evening. Also, it was more about watching the teacher than doing it, so I don't think I will apply much from this class in my everyday life. Having said that, the teacher was very pleasant, nice and friendly, so I think if the initial dabble description of the class would have been more correct and she could have listed the menu of the dishes she was planning on focusing on, it would have weeded out people like me, who eat very healthy and wanted to learn how to cook vegetables rather than flour-based comfort foods.
