Event Overview
Capoeira is a Brazilian Martial Arts. It's movements can feel like a fight or a dance, especially with music playing such an important role. On the surface, it's any combination of kicks, footwork, cart wheels, and some other upside down stuff. But in the heart of it, it's community, expression, music, and discipline.
You will be learning basic movements, and then use them with each other in small "games." Anyone can do this - men, women, all ages, and all sizes!! You'll workout muscles you never knew you had, perhaps sculpt yourself that infamous Brazilian butt, express yourself in a new vibrant way, and most importantly, you'll have fun!
If you ask 5 different Capoeiristas, "what is Capoeira?" then they will give you 5 different answers. This is because Capoeira is whatever you'd like to be. If you're looking to try something new in your life, a new workout, a new hobby, a new outlet, or just.. something, perhaps Capoeira can be something special for you!

MORE ABOUT YOUR HOST
Tamandua (Ta-Mon-Doo-Ah) will be your teacher for this class. He has been practicing Capoeira for over 15 years as part of the group Gingarte Capoeira. And then, Gingarte trains and practices under the tutelage of Mestra Marisa Cordeiro, who ranks among the highest female capoeiristas in the United States. She is well respected both in the U.S. and Brazil as a pioneer for women in capoeira. Founded in 1991, Gingarte Capoeira has grown into a thriving community of over 100 students and performers, many of whom have been with the school for over a decade.
