Event Overview

Are you thinking of writing a grant? Do you have an idea for a project and need help getting started with grant writing?

Grant writing can be a great way to earn funds for new or existing projects, but it is complex! By far, the most common (and unnecessary) reason grant applications are rejected is because the applicant did not follow agency guidelines. "So You Want To Write A Grant?" will uncover common application requirements and pitfalls so that you can have the best chance at funding success.

This small group class will take you through each element of a successful grant application, with your project in mind. Those who have never written a grant and experienced writers are welcome. Participants will learn how to convert project ideas into concrete project plans, and how to create grant-ready specific aims to slip into their next application.

Participants will also receive a guide to common application sections, templates to inform their writing, and a road-map to complete the entire application. The writing approach taught in this class can be used to write grants for all types of projects, including those promoting community building, new business ventures, service projects, education initiatives, and arts/music, just to name a few.

Excellent class. Excellent teacher. Dr. Healen is pleasant, plain-spoken, engaged, and engaging. She covered a lot of material clearly and directly (without any hint of being overwhelming) and provided intelligible answers to a variety of questions. Highly recommended!

A great introductory class in understanding the various elements to consider when writing a grant. During the class, we completed a brainstorming session to focus on the specific areas I'm hoping to fund with a grant. Amanda's engaging style made me feel comfortable in sharing my grant application idea and receiving constructive and actionable feedback. I would definitely recommend her classes for any first time grant applicant!
