Event Overview

What does it mean to you to ‘connect with nature’? How can we connect with something, if we are already a part of it?

In this program, we will explore our own awareness as we focus our attention on first on information, and then on our breath, body, senses, and nature. Did we actually identify any shifts in ourselves? Did we sense a calmer state of mind? Greater presence? More sync between ‘body, speech and mind’? A more vivid experience of nature?

We will begin, in the first session (PART I), with an introduction, followed by Chair Yoga as a form of meditation and warm-up for physical activity. Next, we will explore the Museum's Butterfly Haven with a staff member. We will then shift our mind’s attention from its’ customary interest in information to an introductory meditation instruction. How does this feel?

Some notes:
- There is a second part to this class; you will get the most out of it by signing up for both classes (not required). Sign up here.
- Between PART I & II, you will receive some brief readings, some questions for contemplation, and some instructions on ways to think and write about these.
- Class will meet at the Bison statue in front of the museum.
- Registration will close three days prior to class.
RAIN-DATE: If raining at about 12:30 PM (day of class), we will cancel and postpone one week.
