Event Overview

Your child will explore a wide variety of subjects from rockets and robots to famous artists by learning to paint, draw, collage, print and sculpt. Tactile materials like clay, wax strings, oil pastels, watercolors and acrylic paints will help your child enjoy learning the basic principles of art and invite them to think creatively. With a new project every week, your little one will be developing an important part of their brain. Creative thinking through art making exercises abstract thinking, problem and puzzle solving and intuition.

MORE ABOUT YOUR HOST

Unicoi Art Studio has been providing exceptional art activities for kids in Chicago since 1999. We were voted the best art classes in the city for 2008 and 2009, by the parents of Chicago (Nickelodeon’s Parents Picks Award). Unicoi’s mission is to “draw” out the imagination in every child, with projects designed to be informative, engaging and fun for children ages 3-15. We use premium quality artist materials, so at a young age the students experience rich colors, unusual textures and a variety of unique materials. Our teaching philosophy is for children to be able to use their creativity to explore the subjects that interest them and for our teachers to provide the safe and structured environment to support their exploration.

Judy Stipanuk received a minor in Industrial Design and a major in Photography as well as graduated with honors from the University of Illinois, Chicago. She moved to chicago in 1968 and began her career as one of Chicago’s first photo illustrators. During the 1970’s and 80’s, she won numerous awards for her covers for Chicago magazine. A brown pencil drawing, which she was commissioned to do for the Marque at Steppenwolf Theater, featuring a play about Scott Joplin, is in the permanent collection at the Dusable Museum in Chicago.
