Event Overview

Cameras can do some amazing tricks these days, but snapping a perfect picture occasionally eludes even the best of us. Sometimes you just need a quick touch-up. Enter Adobe Photoshop.

This class will explore essential tools and tactics of Photoshop, enabling you to navigate the interface with ease. It’s designed for beginners with little or no experience and for dabblers who need a refresher course.

We’ll start with a simple tool overview and work our way through important techniques such as using layers, selecting, scaling and cropping. Next we’ll tackle image adjustment and enhancement techniques to retouch, alter and brighten your image. Finally, the class will wrap with a discussion about saving your work and file formats for web and print.

A Wisconsinite and alumnus of University of Wisconsin-Madison, Katie holds a BFA in graphic design. Designer, educator and businesswoman, Katie is a self-proclaimed dabbler. She currently teaches a course at Columbia College Chicago exploring three staples of the Adobe Creative Suite: Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign. Katie has drawn upon graphic design experience to promote and brand her new jewelry line.

    Katie was a great teacher! I had some (self-taught) experience with Photoshop, but still learned some good tips/tricks and short cuts. Katie taught at a nice pace too -- slow enough for a complete beginner/novice to understand, but also not so "dumbed down" that if you had a basic understanding of Photoshop like me, you weren't bored/still learned things.

    For just a short two-hour session, this class was well-taught and led even the most basic users through the tools that we can use right away to improve our images. I left the class feeling comfortable enough to start working with my photos and will use this knowledge as a launchpad to teaching myself some additional tricks in PhotoShop.

    She walked around the class room helping each one of us as needed
    and answered questions along the way.
    Had handouts and another resource to help us after class
    Followed up with email to the students
    Class was small which is good. More students may have required a longer class"

    The instructor was awesome! She was really knowledgeable and open to any questions. It was seriously everything I would have expected from an intro class to PS.

    Katie was awesome, patient, walked slowly through the material but fast enough that I came away from two hours feeling MUCH more confident in my Photoshop abilities. Would love a Photoshop 201.

    Loved the venue (Catalyst Ranch), and the class was full of useful information. The teacher was also great and really knew her stuff.
